Mabibi offers superb snorkelling opportunities with a great diversity of underwater seascapes and marine flora and fauna. The shallow reefs along this protected stretch of coastline are home to an array of brilliant sub-tropical fish including Moorish idols, parrotfish and blue surgeons. The warm waters of the Indian Ocean make this the ideal spot to snorkel or guests can simply soak up the sun and savour the tranquillity of this pristine, sandy beach.Guests must please note that they will need to bring their own snorkelling equipment and that snorkelling at Mabibi is hugely tide dependent, so it can only be done during low tide.

The Maputuland coastline is renowned as one of South Africa’s most popular fishing destinations. Guests can try their hand at surf fishing or fly-fishing. Hulley Point at Mabibi, is a well-known fly-fishing spot. The enthusiastic angler can experience the thrill of bagging the catch of a lifetime from these brilliant waters.

A variety of habitats from the coast, coastal dune forests, sand forests, grasslands, vlei and inland open water make birding around Mabibi a truly unique experience. Some local specialities to look out for include the African Broadbill, Green Malkoha, Rosy-Throated Longclaw, Pink-Throated Twinspot and Grey Waxbill. A birding guide can be arranged at the camp office.

The neighbouring Mabibi community is a rural community who own Mabibi Beach Camp. The office at the camp can arrange tours which allow you to visit the local school, learn about traditional plant medicines, see a witch doctor or have a beer at the local shebeen. Community visits are subject to availability of these activities

Scuba diving on some of the most pristine coral reefs off the Mabibi coast in the iSimangaliso wetland park can be arranged. This takes place at a nearby lodge. The scuba diving is subject to space availability and weather conditions. Please inquire at the campsite office for more information. This activity cannot be pre-booked.
